Welcome to 2020! For our first Facebook Live for the year we would love to introduce, Edie May.

Edie is an accountant, and has been in the industry for 35 years. She is the co-director of Profit First Accounting, a small family run business based on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

Edie May recently sat down with Profit First Australia CEO Laura Elkaslassy to talk about her journey to becoming a Profit First Professional and how Profit First has transformed her business, as well as the businesses she works with.

Profit First is a way of life! — Edie May

Please tell me about who you are and what you do?

I’m an accountant. I’ve been an accountant for a very long time. I have been doing what I do for 35 years which makes me feel quite old but it wasn’t until I met Profit First that I realised that there was a far better way.

So tell me about your implementation of Profit First in your business. What differences did that make for you?

It’s been a huge change for us to be able to manage our money in a sensible way that spreads the money across to the months where there’s not always enough.

For those that may be watching that are considering becoming a Profit First professional, what should they consider and what do they need to know?

They need to allow themselves enough time. When I did it I thought I’m clever, I can get this over quickly, but that’s not quite true. You have to follow the process, it’s not a rushed process, and you have to actually implement it. It’s not just learning, as you implement it, of course, you understand it better, and understand your own emotions as they change because suddenly you’re not thinking in the same way anymore.
